Meet the young Atlanta athletes escorting players onto the World Cup stage
Young Atlanta athletes will escort World Cup players onto the pitch, extending a UNICEF–FIFA tradition dating back to 2002. At every World Cup match, children aged 6 to 10 participate as escorts. This year, Quaker Oats, FIFA’s breakfast sponsor, partnered with more than 30 community organizations across 11 host cities to give about 1,400 underserved youths the chance to walk out with the players. In Atlanta, Soccer in the Streets was selected to run the program for all eight games, with StationSoccer serving as the official escort network. StationSoccer fields are located near six Atlanta train stations, enabling 150 children to participate across the eight games at Atlanta Stadium. Two escorts come from the West End location, and they will walk hand in hand with FIFA legends.
