Meir and Menon Head Out August 6 to Power Station Through Its Final Years

NASA says August will bring three spacewalks over three weeks focused on keeping the International Space Station running toward its final decade. The first, U.S. Spacewalk 96, is scheduled for Thursday, August 6, when astronauts Jessica Meir and Anil Menon exit the Quest airlock at 8:35 a.m. ET for about six and a half hours. Meir will fly outside for the fifth time, while Menon will do his first EVA. Their task is to install exterior hardware that modifies the ISS’s 3B power channel to accept the electrical output of an incoming seventh iROSA wing, delivered by SpaceX Cargo Dragon later this year, supporting critical operations and a safe, controlled deorbit.
