Melania Trump says she secured a one-city ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine for humanitarian aid

First lady Melania Trump said Friday that she helped secure a localized ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine in the city of Oleshky to enable humanitarian evacuation of elderly residents. The agreement, announced through her office, is set to begin October 29. Trump said Oleshky is a frontline city with limited electricity, mined roads, frequent military attacks, and a population largely made up of older people who urgently need medical care, medicine, food, and clean water. She described working directly with Ukrainian and Russian leadership as an “exclusive intermediary,” arranging plans for non-military, civilian leaders to assess needs and coordinate evacuation and transportation, with destinations including either Russia or Ukraine.
