Michigan high school football: Ranking top teams in each geographic region, Week 8

The Detroit News is publishing weekly rankings of top Michigan high school football teams, grouped by county into four geographic regions: southeast, southwest, northeast and northwest. The regions are not equal in size, with the southeast and southwest expected to account for a larger share of teams eligible for the statewide top list. The rankings are updated each week during the regular season. The article lists the counties included in each region: southeast includes Genesee through Wayne (18 counties), southwest includes Allegan through Van Buren (17), northeast includes 15 counties from Alcona to Roscommon, and northwest includes 33 counties, explicitly including the Upper Peninsula counties marked with an asterisk.
