More constructive conversation about local levies and I-194, The Montana Plan | Jeff Mangan

The proposal known as I-194, “The Montana Plan,” would keep Montana’s long-standing reliance on local levies for schools, public safety, parks and recreation, and infrastructure, but would change who can fund campaigns around those levies. Under the measure, corporations could no longer use money from their general treasuries to support or oppose a ballot issue. Instead, spending tied to a specific levy campaign would have to come from individuals. The author disputes claims that I-194 introduces a new “anything of value” restriction, noting such limits already exist in Montana law and apply to goods or services normally sold. Organizations could still educate year-round.
