Morocco PM slams federation chief over 2030 World Cup final boast

Morocco’s prime minister, Aziz Akhannouch, has sharply criticized the head of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation after Fouzi Lekjaa said the 2030 World Cup final would be played in Casablanca, despite FIFA not yet choosing the venue. Akhannouch questioned why Morocco would “offer” to host the “big final game” while discussions with co-host allies Spain and Portugal are still ongoing. He urged officials to avoid election promises for a decision he called “a major issue.” FIFA has not announced which of the three co-hosts—Spain, Portugal or Morocco—will stage the final. Morocco’s proposed 115,000-seat stadium was about 30% complete as of May, with aims to finish by end-2027.
