NATO units forget theyre not the EU

NATO’s Airborne Early Warning and Control (AWACS) Force has sparked online debate with a tongue-in-cheek suggestion for the design of forthcoming euro banknotes: featuring a US-made Boeing E-3 Sentry AWACS aircraft, and on the €20 note, images that appear to show two American F-16s. NATO’s Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) Force followed with posts featuring an American RQ-4D Phoenix surveillance drone. Critics described the idea as coordinated “NATO psy-op” content linking NATO to the EU, but the post is not practical—euro banknotes are selected through a public ECB survey. The survey closes in late September and a decision is due by end-2026; circulation is planned for 2030 or 2031.
