New York City to streamline B38 route in Brooklyn to increase bus speed

New York City’s administration is proposing changes to two Brooklyn corridors—Lafayette and DeKalb Avenues—to speed up buses on the B38 route by 20%, according to the Bus Action Plan. Transportation Commissioner Mike Flynn said the redesign would benefit about 18,000 average daily riders and improve safety with protected bike lanes. The plan largely converts sections of the roadway to curbside bus lanes. Between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on weekdays, parking would be removed or relocated to create bus-only and protected bike-lane space. Bus lanes would revert to parking overnight and on weekends.
