New Zealand complete historic series win in England, Tom Latham hails 'old-school Test cricket'
New Zealand completed a historic Test-series turnaround in England, winning their three-match rubber after thrashing the hosts by 160 runs at Trent Bridge. Having been put into a chase after reducing England to 103-4 overnight, the tourists finished a little over an hour after lunch on day five on a deteriorating pitch. The match was played with New Zealand’s bowling options severely limited by injuries and concussion, and captain Tom Latham acknowledged the result as “old-school Test cricket.” The side prevailed despite losing Kane Williamson after his retirement, and also missing Matt Henry and Glenn Phillips through injury, with Kyle Jamieson rested. Fielding delivered key moments, including direct run outs by Henry Nicholls and Mitch Santner. The victory marks New Zealand’s fourth series win in England, after 1986, 1999 and 2021, and keeps them in contention for the 2027 World Test Championship.
