Newnan teen emerges from woods, attacks high school runner during cross-country meet: Police

A 19-year-old man faces battery charges after Newnan police say he assaulted a high school cross-country runner during a meet. Officers were called to the area of 56 Sewell Road at 7:59 a.m. on Sept. 26 following a 911 call reporting the assault. Witnesses told police that the suspect emerged from the woods holding rocks and wearing an East Coweta High School cross-country jersey, then pushed the victim and struck him with his fists. The victim defended himself, and the suspect left the course and returned to the woods. Aiden Dombrowski of Newnan later turned himself in, and police found the jersey in his vehicle. Investigators confirmed he is not a current or former East Coweta student; the case remains ongoing.
