Monomoy schools honored for student wellness efforts
The Monomoy Regional School District was named a School Wellness Champion after completing the Massachusetts School Wellness Coaching Program, signaling a strong commitment to student wellness. The program pairs schools with a wellness coach who facilitates meetings, provides technical assistance, and guides policy assessment, action planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. At a recognition ceremony during the 2026 Healthy Kids, Healthy Programs Summit, Monomoy received a special banner. District teams attended breakout sessions like 'Catching On: Why Seafood Belongs on the Tray' and 'Recruit and Retain: Strengthening Ties With the Cafeteria, Community, and Classrooms.' Monomoy Regional High School student Davion Dawkins served as a student member of the Wellness Committee alongside health teacher Bambi Thompson. The two-day summit was organized by the Office for Food and Nutrition Programs at the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the John C. Stalker Institute of Food and Nutrition, celebrating innovation and leadership in school nutrition. The recognition highlights local efforts to improve healthy eating, physical activity and whole-school wellness across campuses. The banner underscores Monomoy's ongoing work to advance student wellness across its schools.
