Nick Gentry speaks out on behalf of Pell City (Ala.) football players

Former Pell City High School head football coach Nick Gentry has spoken out on social media in defense of the Panthers’ players after the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) sanctioned the program. Gentry, who joined the Alabaster Thompson Warriors coaching staff after leading Pell City for two seasons (2024-25) with a 12-10 record, argued his players should still be able to qualify for the postseason. In late June, the AHSAA announced penalties tied to recruiting violations, including a fine, probation, removal from playoffs, and a season-long suspension for first-year coach Jake Ganus. Students who violate rules would be permanently ineligible to participate, though they could regain eligibility in the family’s school district.
