Nick Krall Sends Clear Message About Reds' Trade Deadline Plans
Reds president of baseball operations Nick Krall signaled that the club’s approach to the MLB trade deadline is primarily to wait, evaluate, and potentially adjust based on results. Despite winning two straight series, Cincinnati is 37–39 overall and sits 2 1/2 games behind the National League Wild Card race, with six teams ahead competing for the third and final spot. Cincinnati is also 9 1/2 games back of first-place Milwaukee, which they host Monday night. Krall told The Cincinnati Enquirer he expects key players to return, including Elly De La Cruz this week, Hunter Greene in July after missing the season due to Spring Training surgery, plus more near-term returns from Emilio Pagan and Pierce Johnson. With the deadline just over a month away, Krall’s comments suggest selling expiring-contract players like Brady Singer, Nathaniel Lowe, Eugenio Suárez, and Tyler Stephenson could be the more practical path unless the Reds surge.
