Nigeria Football Community calls for assistance to critically sick Binaebi Numa
Nigeria’s football community has called on the government and Nigerians to help critically ill Binaebi Numa, a former captain of the Golden Eaglets that won the 1985 U-17 World Cup. Born in Bayelsa, the Bayelsa-born ex-international is described by Lagos Legends Club, a Lagos group of former footballers, as a multi-talented athlete who also played table tennis at African ranking levels. The appeal says he is now suffering advanced Parkinson’s disease and is being treated at FMC Yenagoa and the Neurology Clinic at UPTH. Doctors reportedly concluded that deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery overseas is his only potential lifeline. Lagos Legends Club, led by former Super Eagles midfielder Waidi Akanni, urged the National Sports Commission, the Nigerian Football Federation, and the Bayelsa State Government to support a fundraising effort covering surgery, travel, and rehabilitation.
