Nobel Peace Prize to be awarded in Norway
The Nobel Peace Prize will be announced Friday in Oslo, Norway. The Norwegian Nobel Committee has received nominations for 287 candidates, with just over a quarter being organizations. Among the names being discussed by prognosticators are the International Space Station, emergency teams in Sudan, children’s advocates in Ukraine, and two major international courts. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has drawn attention in prediction markets, while U.S. President Donald Trump—who has long said he deserves the prize—remains a frequent talking point. The committee typically weighs the durability of peace and the work of institutions that strengthen international fraternity. The 2024 prize went to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado.
