President Trump cancels strikes on Iran subject to emerging deal

President Donald Trump said he is canceling potential new U.S. strikes on Iran, claiming that Middle East allies have reached key parameters of a deal to end the conflict. In a Saturday evening post, Trump said he will “hold off” on ordering attacks for now, adding that the emerging arrangement would include the immediate, complete and total opening of the Strait of Hormuz and an end to Iran’s nuclear threat. He also said Israel has agreed to join the U.S. to try to complete the agreement. Earlier, Saudi officials raised concerns the U.S. could escalate, warning Iran might retaliate against Gulf energy infrastructure.
