Reasonably certain strike killed 'Jihadi John'
The U.S. military said it was “reasonably certain” that it killed ISIS militant “Jihadi John” in a drone strike in Syria. Colonel Steven Warren stated from Baghdad that U.S. forces were reasonably certain they hit the intended target. A U.S. official said a British observation drone was part of the operation in Raqqa, the de facto ISIS capital, and that Hellfire missiles were fired by U.S. drones. The article also reports Turkish authorities detained a suspected close associate of Jihadi John: Aine Lesley Davis, a British citizen believed to have guarded foreign prisoners in Syria, was held after arrests in Istanbul. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said officials were assessing results and that ISIS’s “days” are numbered, while family members of victims urged continued action.
