Record-breaking race: Aussies on podium in men's eight

Australia’s men’s eight made a major statement at the world championships in Amsterdam, winning bronze in the A-final in a record-breaking race. The crew delivered a time of 5:18.28, finishing behind the Netherlands, who took gold in 5:17.75, and Great Britain, which posted 5:17.81. The result comes after Australia’s only men’s eight Olympic medal was bronze at Athens in 2004, with no gold ever earned by either the men’s or women’s eight. At Paris 2024, Australia failed to add to its tally. In the boat were Rohan Lavery, Austin Reinehr, Alex Nichol, Jack Robertson, Harry Manton, Fergus Hamilton, Patrick Long, Mitch Salisbury and Nicholas Dunlop. Robertson and Hamilton were the only Paris 2024 Olympians, with Hamilton crediting longtime patron Gina Rinehart for enabling full-time training.
