Republican demands details on FBI's personal use of government resources
Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) is seeking more information about allegations that Kash Patel used FBI resources for personal reasons, including requests tied to Patel’s use of an FBI aircraft and the FBI’s decision to buy BMW SUVs. Grassley’s questions reference a whistleblower account presented to the Senate Judiciary Committee, which alleges personal spending such as helicopter tours and jet ski trips funded by taxpayer money. The inquiry also draws parallels to earlier Cabinet cases involving Tom Price and Ryan Zinke, who were removed after reported misuse of government planes and helicopters. In a letter cited by Ken Dilanian, Grassley asked Patel whether he reimbursed the FBI for each trip involving personal travel and requested records for any such reimbursements. Grassley also asked why BMW vehicles were chosen instead of Chevy Suburbans, noting an established policy favoring American companies. Democrats Jamie Raskin and Richard Durbin said they support the concerns, citing prior reporting and an FBI-confirmed “historical tour” that included a VIP snorkeling trip in Pearl Harbor.
