Rory McIlroy breaks record that won't be allowed to stand

Rory McIlroy shot a 12-under-par 60 at Wentworth on Wednesday during the BMW PGA Championship Pro-Am, producing what is described as the lowest known score in the Surrey venue’s history. The six-time major champion signed for the round on the par-72 West Course with an eagle, 10 birdies and no dropped shots, highlighted by a run of eight straight birdies. However, the score won’t be entered into the official record books because it was made outside the competitive rounds of a professional tournament. Wentworth’s recognised record remains 62, shared by Robert Karlsson, Thomas Bjorn and Alex Noren.
