Senator Lindsey Graham dies at 71 after "brief and sudden illness"
U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham has died at 71 following a “brief and sudden illness,” according to a statement from his office. The announcement came on Saturday evening, July 11, after Graham was reported to have passed away following the illness. The senator had been visiting Ukraine on Friday, where he met President Volodymyr Zelensky. Graham was born in Central, South Carolina, on July 9, 1955, and studied at the University of South Carolina, completing undergraduate and law degrees there. He served in the South Carolina House of Representatives for one term before being elected to the U.S. House representing South Carolina’s Third District. He won the Senate seat in 2002 and was reelected in 2008 and 2014 by wide margins, having previously tried for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016.
