Taiwan fires battle-tested rockets in 'shoot-and-scoot' anti-invasion drill

Taiwan's armed forces demonstrated battlefield mobility by firing the Lockheed Martin-made High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) during a live-fire drill in Taichung on June 10, showcasing a shoot-and-scoot approach intended to complicate an invading force's targeting. The new mobile system, widely used by Ukraine, was fired for the first time off Taiwan's west coast and is paired with domestically developed Thunderbolt-2000 launchers. With a range of about 300 kilometers, HIMARS can strike coastal targets in China's Fujian province, enabling Taiwan to threaten ships and beachheads while withdrawing to avoid radar lock-ons. Company commander Ko Ming-pin said the unit's HIMARS demonstrated solid combat capabilities and successfully completed the training.
