Teacher Who Had Baby with Student, 13, Pleads Guilty

A former elementary school teacher accused of having a child with an underage ex-student has pleaded guilty to sexual misconduct charges, while the victim said he initiated the relationship and urged the case to be dropped. Laura Caron, 36, of Cape May Court House, New Jersey, entered a guilty plea to second degree endangering the welfare of a child with sexual conduct, announced by Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland on Friday. Under the plea agreement, she still faces up to five years in prison at sentencing. Prosecutors said she taught the boy, born in 2005, when he was in fifth grade and that alleged “inappropriate sexual relations” began when he was 11 in 2016 and continued until he was 15. Caron was charged Jan. 15, 2025, and is expected to be sentenced in January.
