Teen curfew moves up in metro city ahead of Halloween
Ahead of Halloween, the Covington City Council in Newton County, Georgia, voted to move the city’s teen curfew earlier. The curfew for residents 16 or younger was reduced from 9:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on certain dates. After 7 p.m., teens must be with an adult parent or guardian. City leaders said the change is meant to address safety concerns as the holiday approaches, with Police Chief recommending the earlier time. The council previously canceled its Fourth of July event in July due to anticipated issues involving teenagers. The ordinance includes exceptions for teens traveling to or from work, school, or church events, or when accompanied by a parent, guardian, or an adult approved by a parent. It also sets penalties, including fines for parents or guardians for repeated violations.
