Texas A&M infielder Chris Hacopian selected by Washington Nationals in first round of 2026 MLB Draft
Texas A&M’s infielder Chris Hacopian has become the first Aggies player selected in the 2026 MLB Draft, as Washington took him early in the process. The Nationals selected Hacopian, a second baseman/designated hitter, with the 11th overall pick on Saturday in Round 1. The pick came with an assigned slot value of $6,133,500. Hacopian transferred from Maryland and produced in 42 games and starts, hitting 11 homers and driving in 41 runs while posting a .319/.405/.578 line, with 10 doubles, 25 walks versus 21 strikeouts, and three stolen bases. Injuries limited him, including time missed across 15 games. Despite those setbacks, he earned first-team All-SEC and third-team All-America (Baseball America) honors and helped Texas A&M finish third in the SEC and host an NCAA regional as the No. 12 seed. Holding two years of eligibility remaining, he instead focused on going pro and ranked among top prospects ahead of the draft.
