The Forgotten Skyline GT-R Just Became Legal In America
xCruzo Brief
The 1995–1998 Nissan Skyline GT-R R33 has finally cleared the U.S. 25-year import rule: as of October 2026, the earliest R33 models built in 2001 can be legally registered and driven in America. The R33 had long been overshadowed by the R32 that launched the “Godzilla” legend and the R34 made famous by Fast and Furious. Mechanically, it keeps the RB26DETT 2.6-liter twin-turbo inline-six, rated at 276 hp, and ATTESA E-TS AWD. Its key edge was a stiffer, longer wheelbase chassis and a Nürburgring Nordschleife sub-eight-minute lap. The V-Spec adds Super HICAS rear steering and an active limited-slip differential.
