The United States is Aging, But The Rest Of The World Even More So

The U.S. is aging quickly, but other regions will age even faster. A new U.S. Census Bureau report, “An Aging World: 2025,” projects the share of Americans aged 65 and older will climb from 18.9% in 2025 to 23.4% in 2060. Even with that rise, the U.S. would drop in the global ranking of oldest populations, moving from 48th to 110th by 2060 as many countries experience more rapid demographic shifts. Globally, adults 65+ will surpass children ages 0 to 5 for the first time in 2025. Worldwide, the older population is expected to nearly double from 10.5% to 19.6%. Europe remains the oldest region, while Africa could see the sharpest increase in absolute numbers.
