Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong has been granted a S$1 million pay rise—an increase of nearly 64%—as the city-state boosts ministerial salaries for the first time in 15 years. Wong’s annual pay package will rise from S$2.2 million (US$1.7 million) to S$3.6 million (US$2.8 million), while other ministers see increases of up to 9%. Wong said the adjustment is meant to attract talent to public service as private-sector compensation gaps widen. He will donate the increase to charity for five years, amid public backlash and a renewed focus on corruption and leadership quality.
