Trump Accounts Get an Unlikely Endorser: Gavin Newsom
xCruzo Brief
California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a Democrat known for confronting President Trump, urged parents on Friday to sign up for children’s investment accounts branded with Trump’s name. Speaking in San Francisco, Newsom called the accounts “one of the best things he’s done,” even while warning residents not to let politics, cynicism or fear steer them. The Trump accounts, available since last month, include a $1,000 federal deposit for babies born during Trump’s second term. In California, where Trump is unpopular, Newsom said the money is “your child’s money.” He noted he previously created similar programs, including the CalKIDS savings accounts for college or career training.
