The controversy followed Infantino’s late-July FIFA Forward Enterprise proposal to sell stakes in the World Cup, which was dropped later that day. On Monday, the presidents of Europe, North America and Asia’s confederations—also FIFA vice presidents—published a joint letter accusing Infantino of “deception” and FIFA of “fearmongering” in communications to member associations.
