WalletHub ranked 182 U.S. cities for retirement and placed Madison, Wisconsin 11th overall, just behind Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Madison finished 110th for affordability out of 182, but it scored strongly in other categories, ranking sixth for quality of life and 19th for health care. The Public Land Trust praised the city’s parks, saying Madison had the 21st-best park system in the country. It also ranked among the fittest places nationally, according to the 2026 American Fitness Index. Milwaukee came in at 73rd, and no other Wisconsin city made the list, according to WalletHub.
