Wants partners for Boston schools. This donor says he tried.
xCruzo Brief
Michael Champa, a retired entrepreneur and former trustee of the private Carroll School in Boston, says a proposed partnership with Boston Public Schools moved too slowly and he pulled support. In 2022, he wanted Carroll’s reading-instruction teacher training to be brought to Curtis Guild Elementary School in East Boston, paying the estimated “hundreds of thousands” for the district at no city cost. Champa told the Globe that similar education programs he backed in Lawrence and Weymouth launched within weeks. Carroll reported in 2025 that a pilot at Guild was underway, but Champa says the delay was unnecessary. The dispute echoes the controversy around BPS ads removed by the MBTA.
