Warren Buffett plans to donate entire Berkshire fortune 'one way or another' by 2034
Warren Buffett plans to donate entire Berkshire fortune “one way or another” by 2034, laying out a new timeline for distributing his remaining wealth. The Berkshire Hathaway chairman, who turns 96 next month, said in a Tuesday release that he aims to dispose of all his Berkshire shares within about eight years. Buffett holds more than 99% of his net worth in company stock and currently owns nearly $150 billion in Berkshire shares. His plan includes donating about $6 billion through four family foundations, after previously giving more than half his wealth away since 2006. He will donate 12 million Class B shares—9 million to the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation and 1 million each to the Sherwood, Howard G. Buffett, and NoVo foundations—along with remaining Class A and Class B shares by December 31, 2034. The retirement of Greg Abel as CEO ended Buffett’s 60-year leadership at year-end.
