Sandy and Ellie, both 85, have been best friends for 25 years and are known as the “Traveling Nanas.” They’ve visited 53 countries together and say they have no plans to slow down. Their adventures span milestones like exploring caves in Slovenia, boating along Germany’s Spree River, and seeing waterfalls in Iceland—often in matching T-shirts. They met about 20 years ago during a trip to Zambia, bonding after the loss of their husbands. In 2023, they set out “around the world in 80 days” in their 80s, reaching all seven continents and 18 countries. They credit careful budgeting, spending on travel rather than new luxuries, and income from social media and a book.
