The future of London Stadium is under scrutiny as City Hall hears a controversial five-point plan tied to West Ham’s challenges. The Greater London Authority (GLA) covers the operating bill for the venue, but costs rose by about £2 million this year after West Ham was relegated to the Championship. Total estimated losses for 2025/26 are projected at around £19 million. Lyn Garner, chair of London Stadium LLP, warned the financial situation remains challenging and accused the club of frustrating cash-raising efforts, while noting management changes could improve cooperation. Discussions at the GLA’s Economy, Culture and Skills Committee included holding more concerts, extending concert licensing limits, and exploring additional September away matches during football’s off-window. Other measures aim to make the stadium feel less “sterile,” including replacing white seats with claret and sky blue. New vice-chair Karim Virani replaced Karren Brady after 16 years in April.
