What to know about the 5 Mamdani-backed measures New Yorkers are projected to pass
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s administration is projected to win passage for five ballot proposals on Election Day, according to Associated Press projections. The measures are designed to speed up housing output, outdoor dining, and public-safety projects while expanding public-space flexibility. One amendment would simplify the permitting process for ramps, planters and sidewalk cafes by removing required public hearings and preventing the City Council from rejecting an approved permit; the outdoor dining timeline would fall from about eight months to two. Another proposal would cut paperwork and eliminate mandatory hearings tied to vendor contracting approvals. Common Cause and disability-rights advocates raised concerns about reduced public input and barriers to participation.
