When facing life-or-death surgery, this football coach refused to miss Friday night

Justin Dye, the head football coach at Corinth High School in Corinth, Mississippi, asked his doctors to let him coach on Friday, Sept. 24, 2021—even after being told he needed urgent brain surgery. At Semmes Murphy Clinic in Memphis, Tennessee, doctors said a tumor about the size of a golf ball in his brainstem had to be removed or he could die within two weeks. Dye, 36, was diagnosed with NF2-SWN (formerly neurofibromatosis type 2) on Wednesday, Sept. 22. He coached his team against New Albany, a 49-21 loss. Doctors later removed the tumor.
