White House on possible Iran strikes before midterms: Trump 'has all options'
The White House said President Trump “has all options” regarding next steps with Iran, amid reports he is weighing whether to resume major combat operations before or after U.S. elections and Israel’s vote. A White House official told The Hill that the U.S. is in a “very strong position,” citing control of the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s collapsing economy. The U.S. and Iran have been at an impasse more than seven months into the war, with pressure on Iran’s oil exports and continued retaliatory actions. According to The Atlantic, Trump asked the Pentagon to prepare strike options that could be used before the November 3 midterms, and Axios reported Central Command has been directed to conclude preparations for renewed campaigning, potentially including energy, infrastructure and nuclear targets.
