Why Cadillac F1 boss provoked fresh intrigue by dodging driver question
Cadillac’s driver situation drew fresh intrigue at the US GP after team principal Marcin Budkowski appeared less definitive than expected during an FIA press conference in Austin. The team has been operating under “multi-year” arrangements for Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas, described as a one-plus-one structure where the second year is optional subject to conditions. However, when a broadcaster asked about evaluating Perez while he fights near the back of the grid and whether Cadillac would consider a conversation with Esteban Ocon about a reserve role, Budkowski struggled to deliver a clear answer. He praised Perez’s hunger and pushing effort, including texting and feedback, and acknowledged that the team hears from multiple drivers’ managers on the market.
