About a week and a half after the World Cup ended in North America, FIFA has proposed a major restructuring of its commercial model—prompting backlash from UEFA, media and fans. On Tuesday, FIFA said it would create a separate entity called FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) with private investors that would control commercial rights—broadcasting, sponsorship, ticketing and licensing—and operational aspects such as tournament planning and delivery. FIFA claims it would keep “sole control” and “exclusive authority” over the sporting side. The FFE is valued at $20 billion and FIFA says it expects to raise $4.2 billion, including up to $40 million for its 211 member associations.
