xCruzo Brief
Chinese schoolgirl Yu Zidi stole the spotlight on opening day of the Asian Games with a record-breaking gold in the 200m butterfly. The 13-year-old touched the wall in 2:05.08, setting an Asian Games record and shaving nearly half a second off compatriot Zhang Yufei’s mark from three years earlier. Yu won by more than three seconds over her teammate Chang Mohan in Tokyo. After the race, she said the swim was “only so-so,” adding her butterfly technique is “slightly lacking,” but that she improved by 0.9 seconds and expects to go faster. She will race in two more individual events and previously won World Championship bronze at age 12 in the 4x200m freestyle relay.
