Air India seeks more wide-body jets, sees profitability 'very soon,' CEO says
xCruzo Brief
Air India is seeking to expand its wide-body fleet and expects to return to profitability “very soon,” CEO Tewolde Gebremariam said on Tuesday. The Tata Group-owned carrier wants more long-haul capacity to boost international passenger traffic, as it continues a multi-billion-dollar turnaround launched after retaking ownership in 2022. Gebremariam said Air India has held talks with both Boeing and Airbus while weighing the high cost and lower efficiency of operating older wide-body aircraft. An industry source added the airline wants to connect more cities and better navigate disruptions, including Pakistan’s ban on using its airspace. Reporting: Abhijith Ganapavaram, Reuters.
