Airbus finds quality flaw in hundreds of A321neo jets

Airbus said it has identified a coating defect affecting hundreds of its best-selling A321neo aircraft, prompting renewed scrutiny of deliveries. The issue involves the anti-corrosion coating on stringers—strengthening components inside the forward fuselage—according to Airbus. The European planemaker emphasized the problem does not affect safety and reiterated its goal to deliver around 870 jets in 2026. Airbus has delivered 475 aircraft between January and August. The defect is linked to an incorrectly applied primer layer by an Italian supplier, with analysts warning it could complicate efforts to meet the 870 target after earlier production delays. Airbus and suppliers are addressing repairs, and airlines continue accepting affected planes.
