Aircraft with smoke in cockpit conducts emergency landing at Portland Jetport

A Delta Air Lines aircraft reported smoke in the cockpit and made an emergency landing at Portland Jetport on Saturday. Flight 5860 was traveling from Portland International Jetport to LaGuardia Airport in New York City when it declared an emergency at about 1:30 p.m. Maine first responders alerted that the crew reported smoke in the cockpit, prompting the return. Seventy-eight people were aboard and landed safely, according to a second alert minutes later. Airport rescue units deployed a full emergency response, and the Portland Fire Department’s aircraft rescue and firefighting team evaluated the aircraft after landing. The plane then taxied to the gate and passengers deplaned using the passenger boarding bridge, according to Zach Sundquist, assistant airport director.
