Airline passenger who had to be duct-taped to seat after n-word meltdown ID'd as Arizona realtor

The passenger who was allegedly tied to his seat with duct tape and zip ties after a slur-filled outburst mid-flight has been identified as Layne Arthur Lundeen, 67, an Arizona real estate agent. Police said Lundeen forced an American Airlines flight 618 from Dallas to Newark to land early in Baltimore on Thursday night. Authorities said he hurled the N-word at a flight attendant and made anti-gay insults. A traveler, Juan Mejia, told ABC News that he and fellow passenger Richard Olenick intervened after Lundeen became “belligerent” while seated two rows behind them. American Airlines said the flight was diverted because of a “disruptive customer,” and that law enforcement assisted with deplaning before the trip resumed. The FBI confirmed Lundeen’s arrest by Maryland Transportation Police, and court records show state charges including second-degree assault and disorderly conduct.
