Four people were killed on Wednesday after a Piper PA-24-260 crashed into shallow water near Seldovia, Alaska, officials said. The aircraft departed Merrill Field Airport in Anchorage and was en route to Seldovia Airport, about 136 miles southwest of Anchorage, when it went down at roughly 1:18 p.m. Alaska State Troopers were notified and dispatched a helicopter crew from Anchorage, while additional troopers traveled by boat from Anchor Point. The plane was fully submerged in around 15 feet of water in the Seldovia Slough near shore. Troopers waited for the tide to recede and recovered the four adult bodies at about 6:30 p.m. The NTSB is investigating the cause.
