America just put a drone boat in the water that shoots at warships and aircraft at once from a 43-foot hull with nobody aboard, industrializing a trick Ukraine already pulled off when its sea drones shot Russian jets out of the sky
A new drone boat from BlackSea Technologies, dubbed the Comet, is entering U.S. scrutiny after being shown at two major defense exhibitions of the year, signaling a shift from the one-shot maritime drone concept. The 43-foot unmanned hull carries missiles aimed at both ships and aircraft, with a dual-rail bow launcher linked to Sierra Nevada Corporation’s BRAWLR system. Two of the missiles are described by observers as strike weapons comparable to the AGM-114 Hellfire, while the other two visually resemble AIM-9 Sidewinder heat-seeking air-to-air missiles. The boat also includes an electro-optical/infrared targeting turret, a Simrad navigation radar, a Leonardo DRS RADA array, and an EOS Defense Systems 30mm gun. The article contrasts the Comet’s capability with Ukraine’s earlier demonstrations, including a Dec. 31, 2024, attack in the Black Sea involving a Magura V5 drone.
