American Airlines boosts premium seating on 777 jets as upscale travel grows

American Airlines is upgrading its Boeing 777-300ER long-haul fleet to add more premium seating as demand for higher-spending travelers grows. The first retrofitted aircraft will enter commercial service Wednesday on the New York–Buenos Aires route. American will retrofit all 20 777-300ERs by sometime in 2027. The cabin will be reconfigured to 144 premium seats, up from 116, raising the premium share to about 44% from 38%. Flagship Suite business-class seats with privacy doors rise to 70, alongside 44 Premium Economy and 30 Main Cabin Extra seats. American is ending Flagship First on this aircraft beginning Nov. 19.
