American Airlines offered Philadelphia Eagles fans $3,500 each to voluntarily give up seats on an oversold flight to Nashville on Saturday, ahead of the NFL Week 2 game against the Tennessee Titans. The payout is far above typical voluntary bump offers and exceeds the $2,150 maximum compensation that airlines must pay when a passenger is involuntarily denied boarding. According to a passenger aboard, about five people accepted and were paid in travel vouchers. Bids reportedly started 24 hours before the flight at $400 and rose steadily to $3,500. The passenger said the compensation came as three vouchers worth $1,300, $1,200 and $1,000, with rebooking on the next flight at no extra cost. The offer was driven by a large concentration of Eagles travelers on the PHL-BNA departure.
