And EU Airports Affected By Ryanair Flight Cuts
Airline capacity reductions are affecting European connectivity as Ryanair cuts flights in multiple countries, including the UK, Ireland, Spain, France, and eight others. Although the carrier has launched new routes and bases such as Trapani, Rabat, and Tirana, it is also reducing service at airports including Athens, Chania, and Heraklion, and eliminating its Thessaloniki base. The Mirror reported the airline has “slashed” flights ahead of its 2026 summer schedule, mentioning Malaga, Birmingham, and Dublin among the impacted locations. Passengers are advised to check bookings to confirm whether flights are still operating. The reported rationale ties cuts to efforts to streamline profits as jet fuel prices rise, alongside claims of “uncompetitive costs” in Greece and the UK’s Air Passenger Duty. Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary referenced the APD increase and previously said aircraft from Thessaloniki would move to Albania, regional Italy, and Sweden.
